説明；グレイスとは一般的に気品や優しさ、という意味だけど、この曲は女性の名前。

1916年のイースター蜂起の時に、反乱軍＝レベルのメンバーであったジョセフとグレイスが、
小さな教会で結婚式を挙げたが、直後にジョセフはイギリス軍に逮捕され、その後銃殺、結婚生活は
たった15分で終わりを告げた。グレイスはジョセフの死後も貞操を守り続け、イギリス軍がたとえ
二人を引き裂いても二人の愛は永遠に引き裂けない、という内容。

歌詞は「The Fields of Athenry」同様、暗いけど、アイルランドやスコットランドでは、
非常によく歌われる。

家族、血筋を通じて歌い継がれる歌はコミュニティをつなぐ非常に強力な要素となることを表しているとおもう。
セルティックでも、こういう歌が非常に盛んに歌われ、スタジアムでの雰囲気とか試合の内容とは一切関係ない歌詞ながら、スタジアムの内外でことあるごとに歌われる。

オリジナルや歌詞がほとんどない、「オー」とか「アー」とか「アレー」ももちろんありだけど、

老若男女、大声で歌える歌があるとコミュニティの結束力は格段に上がる。
しかも意味のある歌詞付きで。
さらにカラオケでもバンドでもそれをスタジアム以外で演奏し、
いつでもどこでも歌える環境を作ると最強！だと思う。

賛美歌やゴスペルなどの宗教歌があるのも、教会をキーとしたコミュニティの結束を高めるための
「装置」でもある。フットボールも地域コミュニティのキーであるならば、歌の力は絶対に必要だと思う。

話はずれたけど、このGraceもセルティックファン、コミュニティにとって非常にキーとなる1曲なのは間違いないので、歌詞全部覚えてセルティックファンの前でそらで歌えたら、その日のビール代は全部タダになるだろう。笑
